Team Members embody the magic of Camp Kee-Mo-Kee. Their enthusiasm and passion for kids, camp and community are what make them special. Helping campers learn and grow from their experiences at camp and sending them home with a smile on their face is a fulfilling experience for staff!   • Camp Kee-Mo-Kee offers Summer Day and Overnight camp programs in July and August each year. In addition to summer camps, we have off-season and outdoor education programs. We hire 35-40 seasonal Team Members each year in a variety of positions. We also have our Executive Director and Camp Director working year-round to support all that Camp Kee-Mo-Kee has to offer.

    Our programs encourage campers to create, connect and be challenged, with the focus being on participation and effort, rather than accomplishments. Most importantly, programs are meant to be fun for the campers - putting smiles on their faces and pride in their hearts! Our mindset is towards growth and development of confidence, compassion and character in our campers. These principles also apply to our staff - we want everyone to have a memorable summer full of fun, personal development and new friendships!

    1. Before applying to work at camp:

      • Read the job descriptions and other information on this page.

      • Think about why you want to work at Camp Kee-Mo-Kee and what background and experiences you have that will help you be successful

      • Prepare a resume and cover letter to be uploaded to your profile. Have them as separate documents and saved as individual PDFs - no photos please.

      • Be prepared to provide the names, emails and phone numbers for 3 references, these would preferably be people you have worked with or for in a paid or volunteer setting. Coaches, teachers, group leaders and similar references would be acceptable if you have no work references.

    2. Login or create an account in our Staff Portal.

      • If you were a camper, LIT or CIT, you will need to set up staff profile in your own account. Camper Household accounts do not connect with the staff area of the portal.

      • Please remember your login information as this will be used frequently if you are hired.

    3. Follow the instructions, complete the application and upload your resume and cover letter.

    4. Ensure you submit your application and that it is not left “in progress”.

    5. Interviews will start in January for Summer Director, Coordinator, Support and Program Specialist positions. Counsellor interview start in February

    6. After a successful interview, your references will be contacted.

    7. If you are a successful applicant, you will be sent an Employment Agreement to sign and upload.

    8. You will then receive an onboarding package with more information about your position, paperwork to fill out and upload to the your profile and training information.

    • Read and follow all instructions carefully.

    • Remember you are the person applying for the position - not your parents/caregivers. Questions and communications about the application process should come directly from the applicant.

    • You can log back in to complete your application if needed.

    • Ensure we are communicating with you through your own email address, not a parent’s or school email.

    Some training is done online prior to on-site training. All staff are required to attend the training weekend (June 7-9, 2024) and training week (June 30-July 5, 2024). All Team Members must participate and complete all training as required by their role.

  • Most staff are paid a weekly salary, with room and board in addition to their weekly salary. Below are minimum rates of pay for each position, incremental increases will be made based on experience and years worked at camp.

    • Summer Director - $550.00/week.

    • Media & Outreach Specialist, Facility Caretaker - $500.00/week.

    • Health Care Provider - $525.00/week.

    • Coordinators - $500.00/week

    • Counsellors - $400.00/week.

    • Program Specialists - $450.00/week

    • Lifeguards, Cooks and Kitchen Helpers are paid hourly, with minimum wage as the base rate and incremental increases made based on position, experience and years worked at camp. Meals are provided during their scheduled shift. Lifeguards, Cooks and Kitchen Helpers do not live on site.

  • Camp Kee-Mo-Kee is located 15 minutes west of London, Ontario in Komoka. The property is accessed by a 500 metre laneway that winds through 20 acres of managed Carolinian Forest and bordered by Komoka Creek.

    There are 8 camper cabins, 2 staff cabins, the Director’s cabin, Health Hut, Craft Lodge, Dining Hall, swimming pool, outdoor chapel, sports spaces and a campfire circle. The buildings are accessible, rustic and well maintained, with many having upgrades or being replaced in the past few years. Take a look at a map and pictures of the buildings here.

  • Team Members are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from camp each week.

    Camp Kee-Mo-Kee is a short drive for London, Komoka and Strathroy. Most staff arrange to be dropped off Sunday afternoons and picked up Friday afternoons by a family member or friend, and often they carpool with other team members. Public transportation does not service the camp’s area, and an Uber from down town London costs about $45.00.

    Parking at camp is limited and reserved for those who need it most. If a team member is permitted to park at camp, it is most likely they will park at our parking lot about 400 metres from main camp. Parking arrangements must be discussed with the Camp Director prior to the summr.

  • Staff sleep in shared accommodations. Counsellors and Program Specialists sleep in camper cabins with 2-3 other staff and 10-14 campers. Coordinators and Support staff sleep in shared staff cabins, which may be all-gendered.

    Meals are served in the Dining Hall. The menu at camp is simple, tasty and nutritious. Usually, there is an entree with an option or adaptation and there is always a selection of alternatives on our salad bar. Most meals are served cafeteria-style, but we mix it up on occasion. Staff are not permitted to bring their own food to camp, unless approved by a Director.

  • We ask that Team Members conduct themselves in a way that keeps everyone focussed on their job - providing our campers with an exceptional camp experience. These expectations will be outlined more clearly during training, but here are the highlights:

    • Team Members may work long hours and are expected to remain camper-focussed at all times.

    • There is a wide age range between Team Members. Team Members are expected to act as positive role models and ensure their conduct is appropriate for all age levels.

    • Use of profanity, personal slights and mature/sensitive topics are not acceptable at camp.

    • Relationships between Team Members are strongly discouraged, but we are aware they exist. They are not to be visible or have an impact on the program, and should be ‘suspended’ any time you are on site or acting as a Team Member.

    • Physical relations of any sort are not acceptable on camp property. We have a “hands off” policy in all situations.

    • Professional distance must be maintained with all program participants, at all times, both on-site and off-site and it is highly recommended during the off-season.

    • Team Members are expected to adhere to curfews, attend all meals, be punctual and act as positive role models when it comes to self-care.

    • We encourage Team Members to attend community and camp events such as the Easter Dash, Camp Clean-up Day, parades and other camp events. This provides opportunities for connecting with other Team Members and the camp community while supporting the mission of Camp Kee-Mo-Kee.

    • Team Members are representatives of the camp when off-site and off-duty during their contract. Their behaviour must be such that it has no negative impact on Camp Kee-Mo-Kee.

  • Team Members are expected to dress in a manner that allows them to perform their duties comfortably and safely. Clothing must fit in such a way that it stays in place and is not a hindrance to the Team Member should they have to run/jump/climb/etc.

    • Shoes MUST have backs or heel straps; flip-flops or slides are not acceptable.

    • Team Members are expected to wear Team Member t-shirts or other items that identify them as staff.

    • Team Members are expected to wear a watch at all times.

  • The use of cell phones, computers, tablets, smart devices, etc. is not permitted at camp except when approved by the Camp Director or Executive Director. These devices are to be checked in to the office upon your arrival at camp and will be returned when you depart or during breaks and times when are permitted to use them. All other devices must meet the requirements of the camp’s Technology Policy.

    Staff only have wifi access if needed by their job duties as the site has limited internet service.

  • The use of the following is not permitted at camp:

    • cigarettes/tobacco.

    • e-cigarettes/vapes/etc.

    • cannabis products (except where medically prescribed and to be used in compliance with our medication guidelines).

    • alcohol.

    • any other controlled substances.

    Furthermore, it is unacceptable to bring these substances on site, or be under the influence of these substances while at camp or representing the camp. Violations of this policy may result in dismissal.
