Inclusion at Camp (IAC)
IAC Program
Camp Kee-Mo-Kee’s Inclusion at Camp (IAC) program provides integrated support for children aged 8-16 who need individual support while attending summer camp. At Camp Kee-Mo-Kee, every staff member has a passion for inclusion which is infused into the camp experience. Camp programming encompasses each camper’s abilities and minimizes differences. The IAC program includes a framework for screening campers, developing individual profiles, and providing specialized training for the 1:1 support team. The IAC program’s primary objective is to inclusively support campers as they participate in and experience Camp Kee-Mo-Kee’s programs alongside other campers.
The IAC program aims to:
Provide an innovative model for effective integration up to social inclusion.
Support campers in the camp experience alongside their peers.
Train and supervise 1:1 support counsellors.
Teach children and youth the values of patience, acceptance, and understanding.
Deliver programs that are safe, impactful, fun, and inclusive with appropriate supervision and care.
Bring friendship and joy to IAC program campers.
IAC campers will be under the constant supervision and care of trained staff. They will be included in camp at a level that matches their maturity, development, abilities, and interests. IAC campers will be placed with a cabin group and included in the cabin routines and activities.
Great care is taken to support IAC program participants and ensure they will be successful at camp. Prior to the summer, the IAC Coordinator will meet with the camper’s caregivers to discuss how to best support them physically, emotionally, and behaviourally. The IAC Coordinator then creates an extensive participant profile, which is shared with the IAC Counsellors to guide them on how to best support the camper. The IAC Counsellors work with the rest of the staff to create programs for the camper’s cabin group that highlight each camper’s strengths and interests. A journal is sent back to the IAC camper’s family at the end of the week that highlights the accomplishments, activities, and growth that the camper experienced throughout the week.
To determine if a camper will be successful during their time at Camp Kee-Mo-Kee, we ask that you contact the camp to confirm availability and request an IAC Support Needs Assessment form.
