HEALTH & SAFETY AT CAMP
At Camp Kee-Mo-Kee, the health and safety of every camper and staff member is a top priority. From medical support to activity supervision and facility maintenance, we maintain high standards to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
GENERAL SAFETY
Footwear: Campers should wear shoes with backs or backstraps to prevent injuries during activities and while exploring trails.
Sun Safety: Please send your camper with sunscreen, a hat, a reusable water bottle, and shirts that cover the shoulders.
Lice Prevention: Campers receive a lice check upon arrival, and we encourage parents to check their children beforehand.
MEDICAL SUPPORT
Health Care Provider: A qualified Health Care Provider is on site 24/7, and all staff are certified in First Aid/CPR-C. Please discuss any medical concerns with the Health Care Provider.
Emergency Care: In emergencies, campers are taken to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, where parents will be asked to meet us.
Allergies & Dietary Needs: Inform the Health Care Provider of any allergies or dietary restrictions. For food-related concerns, visit our Food at Camp page.
We encourage families to ensure that all vaccines (mumps, rubella, covid, chicken pox, etc) are up to date and documented so that we can ensure the safety of all campers and staff.
MEDICATIONS
All medications must be in original containers and submitted to the Health Care Provider .
Prescription inhalers are carried by counselors in their first aid kits.
Over-the-counter medications (e.g., Tylenol, Benadryl) can be administered per parent consent.
All medical information is kept confidential among the Health Care Provider, Directors, and relevant staff.
TRAINED & TRUSTED STAFF
All staff complete over 80 hours of training, including emergency procedures, program facilitation, behavior management, and camper care. Training combines online modules and in-person sessions. Every team member undergoes background checks and interviews to ensure reliability and strong role modeling. Staff are prepared in areas including inclusion, intercultural understanding, leadership, low ropes, archery, camper developmental stages, and more.
POOL & ACTIVITY SAFETY
Our on-site pool is supervised by certified lifeguards, and all campers complete a swim assessment before their first pool program. Lifeguards identify any campers who are uncomfortable in the deep end, and we encourage campers to communicate their comfort level upon arrival. Life jackets are available for use, though we recommend that campers bring their own if possible to ensure the best fit and comfort.
Activities including sports, nature, crafts, low ropes, and archery follow strict safety procedures with trained staff, proper ratios, and equipment. Staff carry health packs and walkie-talkies for higher-risk activities.
FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE
Camp facilities are regularly inspected and maintained, including buildings, grounds, pool, and equipment. Fire safety, water treatment, and pool systems are routinely tested, hazardous materials are securely stored, and ongoing forest and property management ensures a safe physical environment.
