Carter (Gnome) Mahoney - Executive Director (he/him)

 

Carter is a seasoned camp and youth development professional with more than a decade of experience in outdoor education, leadership, and camp. His work is guided by a commitment to creating meaningful experiences that foster resilience, belonging, and personal growth in young people.

His journey has included leadership and program roles at Camp Kawartha in Ontario, Camp He Ho Ha in Alberta, and Camp Thunderbird in British Columbia, as well as national-level youth development with the Canadian Unitarian Council. He has also worked with the Pauquachin First Nation in British Columbia, leading youth programs, education initiatives, and a summer camp that supported cultural learning and community connection. Across these diverse settings, Carter has designed and led impactful programming, supported staff development, and built inclusive environments where campers and leaders alike can thrive.

Carter understands the transformative power of camp (the friendships, the growth, and the sense of community) and has dedicated his career to ensuring those experiences are available to all. At Camp Kee-Mo-Kee, his focus remains on helping every young person feel seen, valued, and inspired.
