The year 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of camp Kee-Mo-Kee. We have a number of activites and events planned to make this year a great celebration of this milestone.
Camp Memorabilia
Do you have any pictures or video of the camp from the past 50 years? Or maybe you have some stories to share about your time at camp. If so we'd love to hear from you. We're collecting pictures, stories and other memorabilia to display at the camp, create a video and a memories book. You can contact the camp with your memorabilia, or send an email to Edward Avey (aveye@hay.net) or David Whiting (dwhiting@mmm.com).
Tree Planting
Together with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, and the TD Friends of the Environment Fund, we are planning on planting 50 trees to celebrate 50 years at the camp. In the past decade or so there have been a large number of trees that have died or needed to be removed from the forest around the camp, due in part to the dry weather conditions of the past few years. We are working with UTRCA to ensure that we plant trees and shrubs that are native to our local ecosystem (Carolinian Oak Savanna) that will thrive and prosper for another 50 years or more. We hope that this tree planting will be an environmentally conscious way to mark this special occasion.
Anniversary Fund Project
We also anticipate setting up an anniversary fund to allow anyone with a connection to the camp to make a donation towards a project at the camp. The project we are working on to mark the 50th anniversary is a deck on the front of the office cabin. This is a project that has been proposed by many camp directors through the years, and we think that this is the perfect opportunity to finally get it done.
Anniversary Open House July 3, 2010
Finally we are planning a full day at the camp with an open house, camp tours and special events, a dinner and entertainment at the nearby Komoka Community Center, and a campfire back at the camp. This day of celebration for our 50th anniversary will be on Saturday July 3rd, as a kickoff to the 2010 camping season. The open house and campfire are open to everyone at no cost, and there will be tickets available for the dinner and entertainment. Mark this day on your calendar now, and get out to buy your tickets early!
